Kameron Matthews, MD, JD, FAAFP, Puffer/ABFM Fellow Elected to National Academy of Medicine

Dr. Matthews currently serves as Assistant Under Secretary of Health for Clinical Services and Chief Medical Officer at the Veterans Health Administration in Washington, DC and was previously selected as the NAM’s 2018–2020 Puffer/ABFM Fellow.

Rita Hamad, MD, PhD, Selected as 2020 NAM Puffer/ABFM Fellow

Dr. Hamad serves as associate professor and as Director of Social Policies for the Health Equity Research (SPHERE) program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco.

JABFM Releases Special 50th Anniversary Issue

The Special 50th Anniversary Issue not only coincides with the 50th anniversary of JABFM, with its major contributions to board certification, but also with ABFM’s new strategic plan including next directions during a time of great change in healthcare transformation, even before COVID.

Lars Peterson, MD, PhD, Selected as 2019 NAM Puffer/ABFM Fellow

Dr. Peterson serves as the Vice President of Research at ABFM in Lexington, KY, and is also an associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Kentucky.

ABFM Selects Andrew Bazemore, MD, MPH, as New Senior Vice President of Research and Policy

Dr. Bazemore’s areas of focus will include leading the next phase of development of the ABFM research enterprise, co-leading ABFM’s Center for Professionalism and Value in Health Care, and coordinating and developing ABFM career development activities for ABFM Scholars, Pisacano Scholars and Puffer Fellows.

The Larry A. Green Center Wins NQF’s Annual Conference Innovator Abstract Award

The Larry A. Green Center developed the measure with the support of the founding sponsor, the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Foundation.

ABFM’s Family Medicine Certification Longitudinal Assessment (FMCLA) Pilot Approved

All family physicians who are in their 10th year of their certification cycle in 2019 and in good standing with continuing certification will be eligible for the pilot.
