HALM One-Day Exam
ABFM has partnered with the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) to offer the one-day exam for Health Care Administration, Leadership, and Management (HALM).
Application Information
To participate in the one-day exam, you must complete an application to be reviewed and approved by ABFM. The online application can be accessed in your MyABFM Portfolio during the open application period. Click here to review important application deadlines.

Candidate Information Booklet
To assist you with your HALM application and results process, ABFM provides you with a Candidate Information Booklet that includes a comprehensive description of our requirements and policies. We recommend that you read this thoroughly before beginning the application process.
Test Appointment Selection
Once you have completed all application requirements, ABFM will notify the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) of your approved application and eligibility. ABEM will contact you in mid-September with information on selecting an online testing appointment. You may schedule an appointment online with ABEM’s testing vendor, Pearson VUE, for any day in the exam window, depending on availability. Exam appointments are delivered remotely in an online platform and available on a first come, first served basis. Note that there is not an option for an in-person exam at a testing center.
Exam Content
The HALM exam is developed in conjunction with the American Boards of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Preventive Medicine.
